Make a difference to the Apeldoorn of tomorrow and, as an energy transition consultant, help build a sustainable, future-proof energy system

Apeldoorn aims to be energy-neutral and natural gas-free by 2050. We can achieve this by using less energy and generating more (locally sourced) renewable energy. In addition, we face a huge construction challenge. We believe it is important that the energy transition remains feasible, affordable, reliable and future-proof. And that is quite a challenge given the grid congestion. As an energy transition adviser, you will make a substantive contribution to the energy transition, both in policy development and in providing advice.

This vacancy from Energy Transition Adviser (32–36 hours)

This is your next step if you:

  • would like to contribute to the energy transition and are on the lookout for new opportunities and possibilities:
  • does not lose sight of the vision and mission within a complex and political environment:
  • you are a holistic thinker and enjoy working with a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders outside the organisation;
  • want to make an impact on the energy system of tomorrow.

Here’s what you’ll be doing

As part of the Energy Transition programme, the Integrated Energy System team is working on combining energy generation, storage, consumption and trading. In this team, you will work alongside enthusiastic colleagues to identify strategic opportunities to take the energy transition a step further. This change requires a major effort from everyone: local authorities, businesses, other public bodies, civil society organisations and our residents. As an Energy Transition Adviser, you will be part of the Integrated Energy System team, where we pioneer, experiment and learn together.

  • works with colleagues from the programme team to provide advice on the integrated energy system and oversees the interrelationships between energy demand, supply, storage and conversion.
  • monitors and analyses the policies of other authorities (central government, provincial government, regional authorities) and is able to translate these into what Apeldoorn needs both now and in the future.
  • identifies trends, carries out external research and translates your insights into clear and achievable policy proposals.
  • It oversees projects, monitors whether established policies are being properly implemented, and ensures that the results are carefully evaluated.
  • builds and maintains a broad network, both within the local authority and beyond, and forges links where necessary.

Working for Apeldoorn

The Energy Transition programme also includes colleagues from other departments, such as Communications, Projects and Interim Management, and Finance.

Things to bring with you

  • You are a consultant who works independently but also seeks to collaborate.
  • You have an eye for new opportunities and possibilities, and you know what is needed to achieve our goals in the energy transition. You are analytical and have a broad overview of the playing field. Complex issues are no challenge for you. You quickly identify the underlying connections, understand what will be needed in the future, and raise these points for discussion within the Energy Transition programme and with colleagues from other departments. You will then advise political and administrative bodies on these matters. You are someone who does not shy away from innovation. You are curious and keen to contribute to the energy transition.
  • Higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) level of working and thinking. Preferably with a background in climate, energy and/or sustainability.
