The context
The Island Government of Saba is known for its stability and aim in maintaining good relations with the Netherlands while striving to achieve widespread and sustainable results in the various domains. Within the organization, people work together on the further development of the island. Our colleagues work on infrastructure (airport, harbor, water management), public works, planning, solid waste collection and processing, tourism, community development, health care, agriculture, HRM, ICT, finance, communication, civil affairs, legal advice, and various policy areas. In total, there are about 240 employees.
The Saba Island Government works on more self-reliance and economic development, with a focus on sustainability, accessibility, poverty eradication and improving the quality of life. In recent period, the government has worked on projects such as the renovation of the airport, separation of solid waste (recycling), facilitating of a healthy lifestyle, improvement of social facilities, training, and education of civil servants in, among other things, project management and policy writing.
The position
Absolute Childcare is a department of the Island Government of Saba and provides daycare services for children 0-3 years old and After School Care Services for children 4-12 years old. We provide high quality childcare services focused on the individuality and uniqueness of each child. We strive to be a home away from home, where children can play, explore, have fun and be creative.
We are looking for Pedagogical Employees who proactively interact with children and are responsive to their needs. You work alongside children towards optimal development, self-sufficiency, and confidence.
Tasks
- Follows a daily routine and curriculum.
- Creates and executes lesson plans based on developmental or thematic areas.
- Takes (physical) care of the children (which includes feeding, diaper changing etc. for younger children).
- Guides children in daily activities and uses scaffolding to stimulate children’s development at their own pace.
- Monitors group processes and teaches and guides children through problem solving techniques.
- Supervises during execution of activities, sets rules and boundaries, corrects where needed and monitors hygiene and safe use of materials.
- Organizes a wide variety of activities adapted to age and abilities and makes use of a variety of tools and materials, considering the wishes and needs of the individual child and the group.
- Promotes the autonomy and socio-emotional wellbeing of children.
- Keeps track of the development of children via anecdotal notes/ observations.
- Supports in executing individual development plans for children with developmental delays or behavioral challenges.
- Creates a healthy and homely environment within the group in which children feel physically and emotionally safe.
- Ensures good (periodic) contact with parents/guardians and inquires about specific points of attention and specifics of the children.
- Works together with other pedagogical employees and management in the best interest of the children.
For pedagogical employee B
- Is mentor to a group of children and keeps track of the development of the children via anecdotal notes/ observations, child development checklists and reports.
- Creates, executes and evaluates individual development plans for children with developmental delays or behavioral challenges.
What you offer
- You have a SPW3 (pedagogical employee B) or CVQ2 Early Childhood Development (pedagogical employee A) or equivalent diploma.
- Preferably you have knowledge of and or experience with High Scope and Conscious Discipline.
- Preferably you have experience working with and caring for children 0-12 years old.
- You thoroughly enjoy working with children and have genuine interest and enthusiasm for promoting their well-being and stimulating development of children in a childcare setting.
- Good communication (oral and written) skills in English.
- Positive energy, creativity, flexibility and teamwork.
What we offer
Salary according to government salary scales and depending on skills and competences of the ideal candidate. The position is evaluated at scale 5 (Pedagogical Employee A/CVQ2) ranging from $2,038 through $3,212 or scale 6 (Pedagogical Employee B/CVQ3) ranging from $2,282 through $3,496 based on a 36-hour work week excluding 15.5% allowances, vacation allowance 8.33% and a 13th month.
